Amy Thelander, executive director of Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corporation, has been appointed to the Nebraska Commission on Housing and Homelessness by Governor Pete Ricketts.

The Nebraska Commission on Housing and Homelessness (NCHH) is composed of 15 members, as well as at-large non-voting members representing interests of each prior commission, council or committee. Meetings are held quarterly in Lincoln.

Thelander said she is very excited and honored to be selected to serve in this capacity and be a voice for rural western Nebraska. Her term continues until June 30, 2020.

The objective of NCHH is to develop ongoing, specific policies and program recommendations for Gov. Ricketts that address affordable housing and homelessness/at risk of homelessness issues.

Issues include identifying and monitoring the implementation of:

• Models of community-based affordable housing production and homeless/near-homeless programs;

• Progressive housing and homelessness/near-homelessness policies, plans and courses of action; and

• Continuum of Care-based models that provide supportive services for persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
