Perkins County Postmaster Laurie Fagullar holds the Engagement Leader of the Year award she received on Oct. 18 from the United States Postal Service.

USPS honors Perkins County Postmaster

Perkins County Postmaster Laurie Fagullar was named the Central Plains District Engagement Leader of the Year by the United States Postal Service on Oct. 18.

The Central Plains Postal District encompasses 155,104 square miles, which includes all of Nebraska, most of Kansas and southwest Iowa.

Faguller said her boss asked her to attend a meeting, telling her he usually invites his high potential postmasters to attend. She assumed they were priming her for a new job or new duties.

When it came time to present the award, the district manager put on a pair of white gloves and named her as the recipient of the top award.

“I just about fell out of my chair,” said Fagullar. “I just couldn’t believe it. I’m very honored to have this.”

She said it was something she never dreamed of achieving with the postal service.

The Postal Service first introduced the award in 2016 to honor leaders who are involved, enthusiastic and committed to improving their workplace environments.

The Engagement Leader of the Year Awards are given at the district, area and headquarters levels, culminating with a final honoree who will receive a national award.

Nominees must be Executive Administrative Schedule (EAS) or Postal Career Executive Services (PCES) employees in leadership positions and have employees who report directly to them.

Fagullar serves as the postmaster in Grant, Madrid, Elsie and Venango. She was nominated for the award by her employees.
