Vak hired for District 2 roads

James Vak was unanimously approved as the newest member of Ron Hagan’s District 2 road crew at the Perkins County Commissioners meeting on Monday, Feb. 4.

Clerk Rita Long explained Legislative Bill 490 to the commissioners, which is a bill that proposes consolidating the offices of clerk of the district court and clerk magistrates. The bill was introduced Jan. 22 and referred to Judiciary Committee on Jan. 24. There will be a hearing held Feb. 8.

Long said she’s a simple person, and believes “if it’s not broke, why fix it?”

She said the only positive she sees for the county fiscally is the state would take on all the costs.

Long wrote a letter opposing the bill, which the commissioners agreed to sign.

Sheriff Jim Brueggeman said he is currently advertising for deputies. Ruth Mecham is no longer working with the department. 

PCSO is judging the severe weather poster contest by the third and fourth graders. Three with be advanced to Lincoln.
