Venango board approves fireworks donation, car show liquor license
The Venango Village Board approved a contribution toward the community’s Independence Day fireworks display and authorized a special liquor license during its regular meeting June 9 at the town hall.
Board members approved a $1,000 donation from Keno funds to support the Perkins County Fourth of July fireworks celebration. The board also approved a single-use liquor license for the Venango Lions Club Car Show and Barbecue scheduled for June 21 after confirming all local fees had been paid.
During departmental reports, board members discussed water, sewer, trash and street operations. The village also agreed to provide a roll-off dumpster for a property at 202 N. Westmoreland.
Treasurer Cody Miller presented the monthly financial report. As of May 29, the village’s checking account balance remained at $84,000. The Community Redevelopment Authority/Tax Increment Financing account held $197,477, while the Keno account balance stood at $94,379.78.
Residents attended a public forum held during the meeting. Board members also expressed appreciation to Cody and Tana Miller for planting flowers along Pennsylvania Avenue.
The board approved payment of monthly bills, including utility expenses, trash collection, water system repairs, payroll and other routine operating costs. Among the larger expenditures was an $18,315 payment from Keno funds to Van Diest Supply for a mosquito sprayer.
The meeting adjourned following approval of claims.
The next regular meeting of the Venango Village Board is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 14 at the town hall.
Venango Lions Club to Host Father’s Day Car Show
The Venango Lions Club will host its annual Father’s Day Car Show and Barbecue Cook-Off on June 21 in Venango.
Activities begin at 10 a.m. with car show registration and the opening of the beer garden. Additional events include a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m., a barbecue cook-off with judging at 11:30 a.m., raffle giveaways and vendors. An all-you-can-eat barbecue meal will be served beginning at noon.
The event is open to the public and is expected to draw classic car enthusiasts and visitors from across the region. Proceeds support Lions Club community projects and activities.
