Wallace Fire Department receives SIM training

SIM-NE, Simulation In Motion - Nebraska, is a statewide, mobile education system, which brings state of the art, hands-on training using high fidelity human patient simulators to pre-hospital and hospital professionals throughout the state.

These simulators are some of the most technologically advanced training tools available to the medical community today. This unique program delivers quality education to providers who otherwise would not have opportunities to attend simulation training.

A SIM-NE truck from Kearney came to the Wallace Fire Department. Brian Monaghan, simulation program coordinator; Tim Mason, Kearney site coordinator and Michael Dekker of the Hastings Fire Department EMS were the educators who came to Wallace with the mobile simulation truck.

Simulation labs are 44-foot trucks with two simulation spaces: an emergency room and an ambulance module. Mobile Simulation labs are based in Kearney, Scottsbluff, Norfolk and Lincoln.

Computer controlled, high fidelity mannequins are used in the scenarios the educators set up for the EMTs to experience.

With these high fidelity mannequins, the EMTs are able to feel pulses and hear breath and heart sounds. The educator is able to change the status of the simulator as the EMTs provide treatment to mimic real life patient care.

Each of the lab’s modules is equipped with fully functioning medical equipment. The medications are simulated.
