The shadow lines on the house of this mixed media collage by Marcia Bauerle of Imperial are words cut from actual pages of “My Antonia.”

Willa Cather exhibit featured at Meadowlark Gallery

Grant’s Meadowlark Gallery will hold a reception from 5-7 p.m. Saturday night for the  “Impact: Willa Cather” art exhibition now underway at the gallery.

The reception will feature live guitar music by Grant’s Dennis Hanson and a special reading of “My Antonia,” by Matthew Chandler-Smith, also of Grant, who is a professional audio book reader.

The show features the work of 25 Impact Nebraska artists, inspired by the writings of the famous Purliltzer Prize-winning Nebraska author.

The mission of Impact Nebraska, a non-profit visual-arts organization founded in 1985, focuses on educating through outreach programs and exhibitions.

Member artists work in a broad range of styles and media.

Membership is limited to 25 Nebraska artists, who are nationally recognized within their respective artistic disciplines, and elected through an independent jury.

Marcia Bauerle of Imperial  is among several area Impact Nebraska artists that will have work on display. She will be showing “Willa and the Harling House,” a mixed media collage.

Other Impact Nebrsaka artists from the area exhibiting work include Norma Stevens, McCook; Ben Darling, Sidney; Yelena Khanyevskaya, Scottsbluff; Ken Hosmer, Patsy Smith, Sandra Meyer, and Wava Best, all of North Platte.

The group maintains five themed exhibitions, with a new theme chosen each year.

The Cather show was commissioned in 2019 and has been exhibited previously in Red Cloud, Lincoln, Beatrice, and North Platte.

The show can be viewed from 5-7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, or by appointment throughout November.

The gallery will also be open from 5-8 during next week’s Chamber Open House Thursday night, Nov. 18.
