Sara, a 3-year-old pit-bull mix and this year’s ambassador dog, is ready for her forever home.

Wine, Wings and Wags set for April 13

The Perkins County Animal Shelter will be hosting their annual wine tasting event at the Perkins County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m., but a few changes are in store.

This year’s theme, “Wine, Wings and Wags,” portrays a more casual and relaxed atmosphere than years’ past. Guests are invited to pair wines with different wing flavors.

As always, the event will feature a silent and live auction. Non-wine as well as non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Tickets will be available at the door for $25.

Although one pet seeking a home will be in the limelight during the event, there are many animals who spend their days in confinement waiting to be adopted and taken into a loving home.

This event gives the public a chance to support the non-profit low-kill animal shelter and take part in its cause while visiting, eating and learning about the benefits it provides to southwest Nebraska.

Sara

Sara, a 3-year-old pit-bull mix, is this year’s ambassador dog.

Sara originally came to the shelter because her owners moved and weren’t able to take her. She is described as very sweet, loving and loyal.

“Sara loves to be outside, whether by herself or with friends. She also does well with cats. She loves people and earning treats,” reads her adoption page description.

Sara is current on her vaccines and spayed and is ready for her forever home.

Adopt a Pet

Dr. Shannon Jensen said the shelter stays full, with anywhere from 10-15 dogs at all times and a waiting list of five to 10.

Donations are the shelter’s biggest source of income, and this event is their biggest fundraiser.

There is a two-page application to adopt a pet from the animal shelter. Their goal is to find pet owners who are financially and environmentally able to provide a forever home for the animals they’re adopting.

Every animal that leaves the shelter has been spayed/neutered and is current on vaccines. Dogs have an adoption fee of $200.
