Ten-year-old Jimmy Konzak of Grant has healed to the point where he was given permission from his doctor on Dec. 4 to not have to use his wheelchair. Konzak has been wheelchair bound after being involved in an utility vehicle (UTV) accident on November 2 in rural Perkins County, according to his mom and dad, Crystal Sinner and Kelly Konzak.
According to Sinner, Jimmy and a friend were in a side-by-side when the UTV hit some loose gravel and tipped over. Konzak put his leg and arm out to catch himself, which caused breaks on his growth plates in both his leg and his arm, she said. The other boy in the UTV was not injured in the wreck, she said.
After being seen at Perkins County Health Services, Jimmy was taken to North Platte where a rod was put in his arm to help stabilize it, and he was required to stay off of his leg, which put him in a wheelchair for a few weeks, Crystal said.
“The doctors say x-rays are looking good and things are healing as they should,” said Crystal. “Jimmy said it felt good to be able to walk again. He is to do lots of arm exercises as his arm is still pretty locked up, and has started physical therapy here at the Grant Clinic. He’s eagerly hoping to be able to throw a football again soon.”
Crystal said Jimmy has a couple more follow-up appointments before his operation to remove the rod in his arm the end of January. She said Jimmy and their family thanks everyone again for their support and prayers
