Chris Hartsuiker, Jr., 85, of Ogallala, Neb., passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Chris was born June 1, 1937, at Luverne, MN, to Chris and Gilma (Bowyer) Hartsuiker Sr.

In 1949, Chris made a formal profession of faith to serve Christ with his life and was baptized.

On December 31, 1958, Chris married Esther Bishop at Arvada, Colorado. Chris owned and operated a landscaping business for nearly 15 years in and around the Lakewood, Colorado area before relocating to Nebraska in 1973. Chris continued his landscaping and included sprinklers in his business until 1987, when his son took over the business. Chris and Esther moved to Pueblo West, Colo. in 2003; however, moved back to Ogallala in 2013, where he finished out his days.

Chris was a Jack-of-all-trades, having obtained a certification as a welder, earned his real estate license, worked for KOGA radio, learned to be a copier tech for Office Services, owned and renovated rental homes, and enjoyed driving a truck for Paulsen Inc. Chris’ health began to deteriorate in which necessitated a slower pace of life.

Chris was serious about his walk with God, and his faith carried him through years of illness. He was a man of his family, cherishing the moments he spent with them.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Esther (Bishop) Hartsuiker of Ogallala; children, Cynthia Pickering of Ogallala, Kimberly (John) Mercado of Nebraska City, Neb., Randall (Cynthi) of Big Springs, Neb., Cara-Lene (Dannie) Farmer of Ogallala; special friend, Lonnie Grover of Ogallala; ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; six great step-grandchildren; four siblings, Roberta-Lu (Weldon) Price of Palisade Colo., Gary (Linda) Hartsuiker Canyon City, Colo., Sharalyn (DeWayne) Nowell of Pueblo West, Colo., Jim (Kathy) Hartsuiker of Castle Rock, Colo.; along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Chris’s memory for later designation, in care of Prairie Hills Funeral Home, 602 North Spruce Street, Ogallala, NE 69153. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel, with Roy Williams, Julie Harthorn, and Marge Major officiating. Chris will be cremated following the services. No interment of cremains is planned at this time.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
