Dean Wirges

Dean Wirges, 59 of Madrid, Neb., passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, at Perkins County Hospital in Grant.

Dean was born April 21, 1960, in Albion, Neb., to Joseph and Allieda (Peterson) Wirges II. He attended Petersburg High School.

Dean served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He obtained numerous degrees including welding and automobile restoration and plenty more.

Dean was an avid outdoorsman and spent a great deal of time fishing, hunting, shooting and barbecuing. 

He loved exploring food combinations and pleasing his family with bringing new flavors to the table.

He was especially proud of his orange glazed duck. He loved his family and enjoyed going to family events. 

His true joy was spending time with his children, grandson, siblings and friends.

Dean was a jokester and was always thrilled when he could get a good rise out of people. Visitors to Dean’s house could always expect a bottomless cup of coffee and a meal anytime they were hungry. His life was far too short, but Dean certainly lived a colorful one and was loved by many.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Allieda; brother in law, Jay Becker; sister in law, Lois Wirges; and a niece, Mandy.

Survivors include his children, Matthew Wirges of Madrid, Ashley Wirges, her fianc Christopher Postlewait and their son, Hudson, all of Venango, Erin Wirges of Albuquerque, N.M.; his siblings, Joseph Wirges III of Lynch, Thomas and Sandy Wirges of Haxtun, Colo., Phillip and Carolyn Wirges of Holyoke, Colo., Charlotte Wirges (Becker) of Holdrege, Veronica and Dale Olnes of Petersburg, Michael Wirges of Battle Creek; family friend, Morgan Harger of Madrid; and several nieces and nephews.

He will be forever loved and missed by many.

A memorial has been established in Dean’s memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.

Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Lorri Kentner officiating. Cremation will follow the services, with a private family interment at a later date.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
