Merle Gimeson

Merle Gimeson, 92, of Grant, Neb., passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Imperial Manor in Imperial, Neb. surrounded by family.

Merle was born Aug. 15, 1930 at Orleans, Neb., the sixth of eleven children to Otis and Anna (Smith) Gimeson.

On July 11, 1954, Merle married Hazel Courtain at Oxford, Neb. Their union was blessed with five children, Richard, Joyce, Henry, (Merle) Dewayne, and Christopher. Merle and Hazel resided in Yuma, Colo. when they celebrated the birth of their first son. The family lived in Orleans when they welcomed their daughter. In 1961 the family moved to Grant, Merle was employed by Jones Construction. 

Merle had many interests including woodworking, fishing, and hunting. Merle was a veteran of the Korean War, achieving the rank of seargent for the Tank Corp division. 

Merle was the business owner of Merle’s Plumbing in Grant for many years. His knowledge of construction, mechanics, and plumbing served him well and much of that knowledge was shared with his children. 

Merle was preceded in death by his wife, parents and nine siblings. 

Survivors include his children, Richard (Cherie) Gimeson of Norton, Kan.; Joyce (Robert) Forgen of Ogallala, Neb.; Henry (Brenda) Gimeson of Windsor, Colo.; (Merle) Dewayne (Donna) Gimeson of Chadron, Neb.; Christopher Gimeson of Gothenburg, Neb.; brother, Russ (Celeste) Gimeson of Spring Hill, Fla.; grandchildren, Joshua, Riley, Zachary, Craig Allan, Vern Dale, Wade, Devon, Logan, August, Victoria; great-grandchildren, Ravi, Rylee, Callie, Camden, Kennady, and Jake; a special friend, Samantha, and many friends and extended family.

Memorial Services were Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, 3:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Grant, with Denise Johnson officiating. Inurnment was in the Grant Fairview Cemetery with military honors.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant was in charge of arrangements.
