Emmerald Sims February Student of the Month

Perkins County Schools’ February senior-of-the-month honor has been given to Emmerald Sims.
Sims is the daughter of Sam and Breanne Sims.
While at PCS, Sims has been a four-year letterwinner in golf and choir.
Sims has earned three letters in One-Act Play Production, Quiz Bowl and Speech.
She is also a member of National Honor Society and taken part in High Ability Learners, Science Club, the school musical, Cornhusker Girls State, FCCLA, as well as serving on the prom committee and student council.
While at Cornhusker Girls State, Sims placed second on the Girls Statewide Government Quiz.
Outside of PCS, Sims has been a MOPS assistant, worked with the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce, attended Extreme at Grant E Free and volunteered as a Sunday school  assistant and at Camp Mocassay.
Sims is a co-owner of Keegan’s ArKade and also works at Brick and Mortar.
After high school, Sims plans to get her doctorate in a medical field and plans on majoring in Nutrition.
Sims said she has learned many important lessons from working different jobs with a variety of people.
“There is something unique and special about every single person I encounter,” said Sims.
While being a student at Perkins County High School, one of her accomplishments that’s high on her list, she said,  is mentoring the younger girls on the golf team.
“It is gratifying seeing the  transistion of an inexperienced freshie who realizes how hard work and diligence really pays off,” Sims said.
When Sims first moved to Grant, she said she hardly believed how kind, welcoming and safe the town was with all its delightful small-town values.
“After having lived in Grant for almost eight years, I have pretty much mastered driving while one-finger waving at each car I pass,” she added.
Sims shared that the community of Grant has shown her what it means to be a confident, kind, generous individual and not take themselves too seriously.
“I have done everything I can to repay that by constantly volunteering, opening an arcade for the kids to come hang out, helping others within the community and just being a friend to all,” she concluded.
