Smith is state speech champion

Perkins County Schools speech team claimed the district champion title, beating out Omaha Brownell Talbot, last year’s state champions.
Fifteen PCS qualifiers went on to compete at the state speech competition Thursday, March 17 in Kearney participating in 10 events.
Summer Postlewait finished ninth in humorous prose; Triston Hite and Jeb Kohl were eighth in Duet Acting and Gavin Smith won first in Class C2 as state champion in persuasive speaking with his speech titled, “Face-to-Face Communication.”
“Smith’s speech was perfect,” said speech coach Penny Hite.
