Wallace FFA working on successful year

Wallace FFA has had a very successful year after two years of virtual competitions, and no state conventions. It has been very tough for the chapter to feel rewarded after having so many setbacks.
Wallace FFA began its year by attending the National Convention last fall in Indianapolis to receive a national chapter award.
The chapter also received the Governor’s Excellence Award.
Not only is the chapter getting recognized but so are many individuals.
Livestock judging, range judging, vet science, agriscience, food science, ag mechanics, conduct of chapter meetings and a natural resource speaker have made it to the state level of competition before the second round of CDEs.
At the first round of CDEs, Wallace took first or second place in every event it competed in, as well as having top 20 placings for many of the competitions.
Three individual members have had their state degrees reviewed and sent on to the state level and had a proficiency application sent on as well.
Not only are Wallace FFA members doing things for their school and chapter, but they are making a point to spread the word about agriculture to the community. Through trash pick ups, floats at fall festivals, teaching elementary students about ag and delivering snack bags to local harvesters, they are reaching out to the community in more ways than one.
The officer team, led by Denay Pelster, Morgan Lungrin, Ainsley Strawder, Kolton Hager, Trey Robertson, Emma Matson, Reagan Pelster and Brylie Robinson, stated that “none of our successes and opportunities we have had would have be possible without the encouragement and support from our Ag Advisor Lisa Kemp.”
There are also classroom opportunities that most students would not get the opportunity to have. The chapter has purchased a Z space computer to help learn plant parts, an Artificial Inseminator simulator of a cow and the grow towers used for growing vegetables year round.
Even if a student is not in FFA, they still can get hands-on experience in an ag class.
Last week the chapter spread the word about National FFA Week with daily locker signs, FFA trivia and officer station scavenger hunts, among other activites.
Wallace will be headed to the state convention April 6-8.
