Wallace, PCS at Wallace speech meet

Speech season for Wallace and Perkins County began Jan. 15 with the Wallace Speech Meet.
Wallace Speech Coach Samantha Garrison said the school was excited to host the meet to start the 2022 season.
“It was obvious many hours of preparation had been spent by students to put together their events; there was some tough competition,” Garrison said.
Sutherland won the 10-team competition with 117 points. PCS placed second with 83 points and Wallace finished eighth with four points.
Placing for PCS was Kaitlin Meyer, first in Informative; Meghan Bishop, first in Persuasive; Summer Postlewait, second in Poetry and third in Humorous; Gavin Smith, second in Persuasive and fourth in Informative; Mallory McClenahan, second in Serious; Caitlyn Dolezal, third in Serious; Triston Hite and Jeb Kohl, third in duet; Eli Busick, fourth in Extemporaneous; Iris Robles, fifth in Serious; Emme Sims, fifth in Humorous; Postlewait and Smith, fifth in duet; and Eric Gonzales, sixth in Poetry.
The Oral Interpretation of Drama team performing Miss Polly, made up of Reese, Fisher, Uehling, Dolezal and Potts, placed fourth. The OID team performing Easter Egg, made up of Hite, Bishop, Kohl, Perez and Dolezal, placed fifth.
For Wallace, Kendall McClintock placed fifth in Extemporaneous; Brylie Robinson placed sixth in Persuasive speaking; and the OID team of Mariah Gardner, Ainsley Strawder, Brooke Bryant, Jasmin Gardner placed sixth.
PCS will take over hosting duties for the season’s next meet. Both schools will be at the Perkins County Invitational Jan. 29.
Garrison said having a meet under their belt will help her students for the PCS meet.
“After performing this weekend, students will spend time reviewing and applying the judges’ comments to make their presentations better for our next meet,” she said, adding she is thankful for the administrative and volunteer support that it takes to run a meet smoothly.
