Brient Wood earns a pin over Curtis Jackson during Chase County Invite action. Wood placed fourth at 170 lbs.

Grapplers second at Chase County Invite, Ashton Meyer wins 285 lbs.

Behind a first place finish by Ashton Meyer and runner up placings by Austin Meyer and Colton Pouk, the Perkins County wrestling team finished as runner up at Saturday’s Chase County Invite behind Sedgwick County/Fleming.
Ashton Meyer was the top seed and placed first in the seven-man heavyweight bracket after a final’s battle with teammate Juan Perez. The match was Perez’s only loss in three matches.
Pouk was seeded first out of 11 in the 145-pound bracket. After winning his first two matches, Pouk lost to Daniel Kohel (20-6 ) of Morril in the finals.
Austin Meyer won two of three pool matches at 220 lbs. Austin Meyer’s only loss came to Jaret Peterson (25-3) of Chase County.
Tony Lyon placed third out of six wrestlers at 120 lbs. After an opening win, Lyon lost his semifinal match, but bounced back to record a 33-second pin in the third place match.
Mason Toner also took third place at 126 pounds. Toner’s only loss in the nine-man bracket came in the semifinals to Hershey’s Brodey Hund. Seeded first, Toner took third with a 12-5 decision in the third place match.
At 170 pounds, Brient Woods placed fourth after a 3-2 day.
Henry Taylor went 0-2 at 138 pounds and Issiah Dunn lost three matches at 220 pounds.
Next up for the Plainsmen will be a trip north to the Chadron Invite Saturday. The invite is one of five that the team has an overnight stay.
Head Coach Tanner Collins said overnight trips seem to bring the team together a little more.
Collins said Pouk is a little beat up at this point and will rest this week. Other than some bumps, bruises and a little bit of illness, Collins said everyone else should be good to go.
