PCS falls to Bridgeport in subdistrict finals

The Perkins County girls’ basketball team’s season came to an end Feb. 17 in Bridgeport. After a subdistrict win over Kimball Feb. 15, PCS fell to the hosts in the subdistrict finals.

Second-seeded PCS avenged a SPVA tournament loss to Kimball in the opening round. Perkins County scored three points at a time in the first quarter. Libby Cole started the Plainsmen off with a three pointer that Kailee Potts followed up with a conventional three-point play. Meghan Bishop and Autumn Anderson also made three pointers to help PCS to a 16-7 first quarter lead.
Perkins County continued to pull away in the second period. Cole and Hallie Fisher each scored four points in the quarter. PCS went to the locker room with a 29-15 lead.
The third quarter behind five points from Cole and four each from Potts and Fisher.
PCS closed out the 55-39 win with all 14 players seeing action in the fourth quarter.
Plainsmen Head Coach Deanne Biship said her team placed sharp and focused on putting themselves in better defensive positions to stop the ball and limit Kimball’s shots on goal.
Cole led PCS with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Potts finished with 13 points and Fisher added 12.

Bishop said there’s a reason Bridgeport is the second ranked team in the state with two Division I recruits.
Bishop credited the Bulldogs’ great support cast and said its a well-rounded team.
Bridgeport’s full-court defense tied PCS in knots in the first quarter and Perkins County soon found itself trailing 2-16.
On the night Bridgeport forced 36 PCS turnovers.
“Their pressure defense gave us fits, and it was tough to get into a good rhythm,” Bishop said.
Perkins County also gave up five conventional three-point plays in the 22-67 loss.
Potts was the only Plainsmen in double figures, scoring 11 points.
PCS out rebounded Bridgeport 23-21 in defensive rebounds, but the Bulldogs had 19 offensive rebounds to six for PCS leading to a 0-19 deficit in second chance points.
