Plainsmen grapplers travel to Kearney Catholic, Doniphan

Another week, another overnight road trip for the Perkins County wrestlers.
PCS headed to Kearney Friday for a dual with Kearney Catholic.
Taking wins were Brient Wood at 170 lbs. with a third period pin, Ashton Meyer with a late second period pin at 285 lbs. and Austin Meyer with an 11-5 decision at 220 lbs.
Tony Lyon lost a close 8-7 decision at 120 lbs.
Losing by pin was Mason Toner at 126 lbs.
The Plainsmen forfeited seven matches to Kearney Catholic. Only one match was a double forfeit.
Saturday PCS was one of 14 teams at the Doniphan-Trumbull Invitational.
PCS Head Coach Tanner Collins said the Plainsmen struggled on the day.
Third place finishes by Austin Meyer and Juan Perez highlighted the invite.
Austin Meyer improved to 20-9 on the season after the 3-1 weekend at 220 lbs. Two of his wins came in overtime.
Perez split his first two matches of the day and advanced to the third place match when Ashton Meyer was forced to medically forfeit his match to Perez. Perez won by a 3-2 decision to take third.
Collins said Ashton Meyer is day to day for now. Getting him healthy for districts is the team’s main concern.
Toner was 2-2, Wood was 1-2, Lyon was 0-2 and Issiah Dunn 0-2 on the day.

PCS will be in Bridgeport Thursday for the SPVA conference meet.
Collins said Perkins County needs to refocus for the last three weeks of the season.
Sutherland, the Class D second seed in this weekend’s NSAA Dual State Championships, continues to bulldoze its way through the season and boasts the most complete team in the conference, followed by Chase County.
PCS will return to Bridgeport Feb. 11 and 12 for districts.
The state championship meet will begin Feb. 17. Class D will be in the evening session.
Girls’ matches will be ran alongside Class A and D matches beginning the afternoon of Feb. 18. All classes of semifinals and third round consolation matches will be that evening.
All classes and girls will wrestle throughout the day on Feb. 19 with championship matches to begin at 2 p.m. MT.
