Plainsmen hit the ground running

The track season is underway at Perkins County. PCS hosted Chase County and Potter-Dix Thursday for its annual pre-season meet.
PCS Head Coach Shayne Hite said he thought his teams competed very well, pointing out 33 personal records for the boys’ team and 22 for the girls’ squad.
“We know we are not in shape yet. We just treated this meet like a hard practice with adrenaline,” Hite said.
With no team title on the line, Hite said he let kids try some events that they may be interested in along with events he thinks they will be in down the road.
“It’s just like a big puzzle and it usually takes the entire season to put the pieces together,” Hite said.
Getting a chance early in the season to compete gave coaches a chance to see where the teams’ weaker areas are and what the Plainsmen need to start working on to get some people developed, Hite added.
PCS swept the 3,200-meter runs. Meredith Gloy brought home the win for the girls and Mason McGreer won the boys’ race. Also winning events for the Plainsmen were Casey Hanson, 400 meters and long jump; Colton Pouk, 800 meters; and Triston Hite, triple jump.
The boys’ 400-meter relay team of Hite, Hanson, Ethan Sihm and Pouk, also took first place.
PCS will host its E. Lee Todd Invite Friday with eight teams on the schedule.
