Plainsmen take 14-8 record into post season

The Perkins County boys’ basketball team knew it would have its hands full when it traveled to 18-3 Potter-Dix Friday night. The Coyotes proved to be as good as expected and sent PCS home with a 49-58 loss.
Playing without Triston Hite, the Plainsmen fell behind 8-13 by the end of the first quarter.
Hunter Garner scored Perkins County’s first five points of the game. Hayden Foster ended the Plainsmen’s scoring in the first quarter with a conventional three-point play.
PCS erased the deficit in the second quarter, starting off with back-to-back buckets by Blake Garner. H. Garner matched his effort with back-to-back field goals of his own. A free throw by Foster and basket by Casey Hanson were followed by another B. Garner basket. H. Garner rounded out the first half with two three pointers. After holding Potter-Dix to 12 second quarter points, PCS led 27-25 at halftime.
The third quarter remained close, but the Plainsmen were unable to match four third quarter 3s by Potter-Dix. B. Garner made two three pointers for Perkins County in the quarter. H. Garner, Foster and Hanson added baskets, also.
Trailing 40-41, PCS ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. Landon Noyes came off the bench to score for Perkins County. H. Garner added a three pointer and two point field goal, but the Plainsmen’s only other offense came in the form of two free throws.
Perkins County lost the contest 49-58.
H. Garner finished the night with 22 points. B. Garner also scored in double figure with 13 points.
Foster pulled down 11 rebounds and H. Garner nabbed nine boards.

Subdistrict
Perkins County, seeded third, played second seeded Bayard, 15-9, Tuesday evening in Bridgeport.
The Bulldogs (14-10) earned the C2-12 subdistrict’s top seed and faced Chase County Tuesday, as well.
The fifth-seeded Longhorns (11-15) earned the right to take on Bridgeport after a 55-50 win over fourth-seeded Morrill (11-12) Monday night.
Winners of Tuesday’s games will play in Bridgeport at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
