Plainsmen wrestlers head north to Chadron

‘The talent level was tough in some weights, but the tournament is definitely down from what it used to be.’ Tanner Collins PCS Wrestling Coach

Though the Perkins County wrestling team’s trip to the Chadron Invite wasn’t earth shattering by any means, PCS Head Coach Tanner Collins still found positives from the meet.
Tony Lyon went 1-2 in the 120 lb. bracket. Collins said Lyon got some good matches in and learned some things even though he only won one match.
Collins also highlighted a big win for Henry Taylor at 138 lbs. Taylor finished the meet 1-2.
At 126 lbs, Mason Toner lost both his matches.
Austin Meyer was one of five wrestlers at 220 lbs. Meyer won his first match over Mead, Colorado’s Tommy Tatham (21-11) by tiebreaker. Despite traveling nearly 200 miles, Meyer’s finals match was against neighboring Chase County’s Jaret Peterson. The pair also wrestled for first place in last week’s Chase County Invite. Meyer was pinned in the match and settled for second place.
Ashton Meyer and Juan Perez both wrestled at 285 lbs.
The pair were also part of a five-man bracket and, as with Austin Meyer, had the same finals matchup as the CCS Invite.
Ashton Meyer’s first match of the tournament was a 29-second pin in the semifinals.
Perez also had his first match in the semifinals where he won with a third period pin.
The finals match between the two went the distance. Ashton Meyer brought home first place with a 3-1 decision.
“The big guys unfortunately only had five guys in their brackets and did as expected. The talent level was tough in some weights but the tournament is definitely down from what it used to be,” Collins said.
Colton Pouk and Brient Wood didn’t wrestle.
