SPVA hits pause, conference meet moved to Thursday

Nothing has went as planned lately for the Perkins County track teams.
After the April 25 Hershey Invite was cancelled, PCS took a group of athletes to the McCook JV Invite in preparation for Friday’s SPVA championships.
After a lightning and rain delay of over an hour, the SPVA track meet got underway in Grant Friday.
Athletes mostly competed the first round of field events, girls’ triple jump, high jump and shot put, plus boys’ discus, long jump and pole vault, before Mother Nature intervened once more.
Once the rain started pouring down, officials quickly postponed the remainder of the meet.
Monday the official announcement went out. The junior high and high school conference meets will run concurrently Thursday at Chase County.
Junior high field events will begin at 9 a.m. while high school coaches have their scratch/add meeting.
At 10 a.m. the  3,200-meter relay will run, JH followed by high school. Then the high schools will take over the track, running the 100-meter and 110-meter hurdles prelims, 100-meter dash prelims, 400-meter finals, 3,200-meter run finals and 200-meter dash prelims.
Junior high teams will wrap up the morning session with 200-meter dash finals, 800-meter run finals, 400-meter relay finals, 400-meter dash finals and 1,600-meter run.
Scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. are high school field events, boys’ triple jump, girls’ long jump, boys’ high jump, boys’ shot put, girls’ discus and girls’ pole vault.
Afternoon running events will begin at 2 p.m., JH girls and boys’and HS 100-meter hurdle finals, 110-meter hurdles finals, all 100-meter dash finals, high school 800-meter run finals, HS 300-meter hurdle finals, JH 200-meter hurdle finals, HS 200-meter dash finals, JH 1,600-meter relay finals, HS 1,600-meter run, HS 400-meter relay finals and HS 1,600-meter relay finals.
Tuesday PCS was at the Best of the Midwest in Sutherland. Plainsmen who qualified were Colton Pouk, 800-meter run; Mason McGreer, 3,200-meter run; the boys’ 3,200-meter relay; Blake Garner, triple jump; Kailee Potts, 300-meter hurdles; and the girls’ 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relays.
McCook JV Invite
The Perkins County girls’ team placed second at the McCook JV Invtie and the boys’ squad took third place.
Earning wins were Libby Cole, 400-meter dash, Kenna Busick, 800-meter run; Charis Goodell, 1,600-meter run; Kailee Potts, both hurdles races; the girls; the girls’ and boys’ 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays; Colton Pouk, 400-meter dash; Mason McGreer, 3,200-meter run; and Blake Garner, triple jump.
