Wallace boys split with Brady, Maxwell

The Wallace boys’ basketball team moved to 10-8 on the season after a win over Brady and loss to Maxwell last week.

Wallace broke a two-game losing streak with a 77-55 win over Brady Feb. 1.
Camden McConnell had the hot hand in the first quarter, scoring 10 of Wallace’s first 16 points.
Leading 16-9, the Wildcats increased their lead in the second quarter. McConnell continued to put points on the board, adding seven more points. Kyler Flaming heated up, as well, scoring eight points before halftime.
A big third quarter blew open the 36-24 game.
Seven Wildcats scored after halftime, including Trey Robertson with eight points in the third quarter. Kolton Hager heated up also, hitting two third quarter 3s.
Wallace entered the final stanza leading 60-38.
Flaming scored eight more points in the fourth quarter and tied with McConnell for a game-high 20 points. Hager also finished in double figures, totaling 15 points.
McConnell and Hager also nabbed 10 rebounds each. McConnell was credited with eight assists.

It was Wildcat on Wildcat action Friday at Maxwell.
Another strong start by McConnell and Flaming gave Wallace a 16-11 lead after the game’s first eight minutes. McConnell scored eight points, including two 3s, and Flaming totaled six points.
Wallace increased its lead before halftime.
Alec Messersmith made three and two-point field goals and Flaming hit two buckets. Wallace combined to make 3-4 from the charity stripe before the halftime horn, as well.
Coming out of the locker room leading 28-21, Wallace looked to put the game out of reach with a strong third quarter.
McConnell and Hager each scored five points, while Messersmith added four and Trey Robertson two points.
The Wallace defense was stout, also, holding Maxwell to nine points and increasing the lead to 44-30.
Maxwell had other ideas in the fourth quarter.
Wallace was held to four points by Flaming and three free throws while Maxwell went on a 23-7 run to end the game. Behind five fourth quarter 3s, Maxwell had enough in its tank to overtake Wallace.
Wallace lost the game 51-53.
McConnell scored 16 to lead Wallace. Also finishing in double figures were Flaming with 14 points and Messersmith with 10 points.
Hager led Wallace with seven rebounds.

The Wildcats hosted 5-13 Southwest Tuesday.
Friday, Wallace will travel to Trenton to face 12-9 Hitchcock County.
The regular season will wrap up Feb. 18 at Creek Valley (1-17).
With Medicine Valley sitting at third in the point standings, it currently looks like the postseason will begin Feb. 22 at Curtis.
