Wildcats win two with postseason looming

With its eyes on the postseason prize, the Wallace girls’ basketball team improved its record to 12-7 with just two games remaining on its schedule.
Brady
Dajana Garrison and Karlie Finley carried the offensive load for the Wildcats in the first quarter of their home game against Brady Feb. 1.
Garrison scored nine points and Finley six of Wallace’s first 17 points. The Wildcats played great defense in the first quarter as well, taking a 17-2 lead into the second quarter.
Wallace continued to pull away in the second quarter. Finley added nine points to her total to go with five points by Kendyl Flaming. The Wildcats took a 35-9 lead into the locker room.
Garrison got hot once more in the third quarter, rattling in three baskets and going 3-6 from the charity stripe.
With 10 points spread between four other players, Wallace led 54-21.
With the large lead, Wallace Head Coach Shawn Sullivan was able to go to his bench in the fourth quarter. Eleven Wildcats saw action in the game. With four starters sitting out the quarter, the Wildcats still held Brady scoreless and took a 61-21 win.
Garrison led the Wildcats with 22 points. Finley scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Maxwell
Wallace’s offense continued to hit on all cylinders Friday night at Maxwell.
In the low scoring first quarter, Mariah Gardner scored all nine of Wallace’s points.
The Wildcats held Maxwell to one field goal and one free throw, and took a 9-3 lead into the second quarter.
Behind a continued strong defensive effort, Brady only made two field goals and four free throws in the second quarter, Wallace increased its lead to 28-11.
Finley scored seven points in the quarter and Gardner and Flaming added four points apiece.
Wallace cruised in the second half. Finley made two field goals and Reagan Pelster and Gardner chipped in baskets also.
The Wildcats made 3-4 from the charity stripe in the third quarter as well.
Holding a 39-18 advantage, Sullivan went to his bench once more. Twelve Wildcats took to the court in the game.
Garrison scored seven points as time ran down in the game. Gardner added five points to her total in the fourth quarter, as well, to finish off the 55-26 win.
Gardner had a double-double with a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds in the win, to go with seven steals.
Finley also finished in double figures with 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Up next
The Wildcats took on RPAC foe Southwest (10-8) Tuesday at home.
The game was the final one to be counted towards subdistrict seeding.
Wallace traveled to Hitchcock County (7-13) Friday.
Subdistricts will begin Tuesday, Feb. 15, most likely at Wauneta-Palisade. The championship game of the subdistrict will be played Feb. 17.
Official pairings will be released Thursday.
Wallace has split games with Wauneta-Palisade this season, losing 60-66 in the first game of the season Dec. 2.
The Wildcats would avenge the loss, beating the Broncos on their home court 53-51 in overtime during the RPAC tournament Jan. 24.
The Wildcats beat Paxton on its home court 49-40 Jan. 14.
Wallace also beat Dundy County Stratton 54-28 Jan. 16.
