2024 Election Coverage & Candidate Previews
The General Election is coming on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 and aside from state and national topics and a heated presidential election, Perkins County residents will have a few local issues to vote on as well.
Commissioner for District 1, City Council, Perkins County School Board and the Village of Elsie are the local issues on the 2024 ballot.
Mail-in ballots were sent out September 30, with in office voting held from October 7 – through November 4, according to County Clerk Rita Long. Deadline for registering to vote is this Friday, October 25 in the County Clerk’s office at 6 p.m.
CANDIDATE FILINGS
Commissioner #1: The Republican candidate for District #1 commissioner is new candidate Darin Robertson.
City Council: The City of Grant City Council race will fill two seats, and two incumbents will be on the ballot, Samuel Sims and Kimberly Bishop. Jennifer Tatum is a new candidate for this race.
Tatum is requesting no votes and does not wish to be elected. “Due to personal reasons, I have made the decision to withdraw from the city council race.
This was not an easy choice, as I am deeply committed to our community and the issues that matter to us all. However, I feel that this is the right decision for me at this time.
I want to express my gratitude for the support I have received during this campaign. I look forward to continuing to serve the community in other ways and wish all candidates the best in their endeavors,” Tatum said.
Tatum made the decision on Monday, Oct. 21, but the deadline to remove one’s name from the ballot was Aug. 1.
School Board: The Perkins County School board will fill three seats.
New candidates on the ballot are Jason Noyes and Mitchell Bottom, joining incumbents Jayson Bishop and Holly Cornelius.
Village of Elsie: The Village of Elsie Board has three seats up, and three incumbents have filed; Tami Cook, Chris Flaming and Lynn Cook. No responses were received from Elsie candidates.
Village of Madrid: The Village of Madrid Board has three seats up for grabs, and three on the ticket, Anthony Ross, George Adams and Sean Sando. No responses were received from Madrid candidates.
Village of Venango: The Village of Venango will elect two board members and there are two names on the ballot; Tom Tines and Cody Miller.
