4th of July events set

Celebrations will be held at the Grant City Park on Monday, July 4 this year to recognize our nation’s Independence. The events are once again being sponsored by the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce. 

To kick things off will be an opening ceremony at 6:45 a.m. After this will be the annual Fire Cracker Fun Run at 7 a.m., sponsored by Image Total Fitness. Proceeds from this run will go towards the PC Chamber’s welcome sign project.

After running the race, anyone that is hungry can go to breakfast at 7:30 a.m. sponsored by the Perkins County Schools Foundation, with a free-will donation being accepted. 

At 9 a.m., sand volleyball begins sponsored by First Insight Eye Care. Slushies will be sold by the Perkins County FFA starting at 11 a.m., with lunch being provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Grant Park and Rec Department. A free-will donation will be accepted for the new ball field fence. 

From 12 noon to 5 p.m. a car show will be held along with bounce houses, free popcorn and cotton candy sponsored by the Grant E-Free Church. 

Starting at 1 p.m., the Perkins County FFA will have their corn hole tournament. Registration starts at 11 a.m. There is a fee for each team that participates. The prizes for the top three winners in the tournament are as follows: 1st place-four concert tickets to Blackhawk during the Perkins County Fair, 2nd place-two Blackhawk tickets, 3rd place-a $20 gift certificate to In and Out. 

Also, a 1 p.m. is a horseshoe tournament sponsored by Great Plains Communications. From 1 to 5 p.m. there is free swimming sponsored by the City of Grant. Starting at 2 p.m. will be the rib cook-off judging. 

Throughout the day will be Tree Trivia sponsored by the Grant Tree Board, and music and announcements by Matthew Chandler-Smith of Orpheus Music and Sound. 

The finale of the day will be the annual fireworks show at dusk at the Perkins County Fairgrounds put on by the Grant Volunteer Fire Dept. This will be funded by the Perkins County Chamber with assistance from local donations. 

Donations for the display can now be made at Pinnacle Bank, Heritage Crop Insurance and The Grant Tribune-Sentinel. 

The show relies on continued donations from the community and any amount given is greatly appreciated by the chamber, according to Chamber President Michelle Ross.
