Arbor Day celebration to be held at Grant City Park

The Grant Tree Board has planned its annual Arbor Day celebration to take place Wednesday, April 27, 10:30 a.m. at the Grant City Park.
As has been the custom the last few years, Perkins County fourth graders will participate in the celebration by planting two trees of their choice, from selections given to them by the tree board.
This year’s trees are Miyabe maples, a state street tree, which will reach approximately 40’ at maturity and produce gold fall color.
The two maples will be planted in the park by the students, members of the tree board and the Grant Lions Club. One of the trees was donated by the tree board, the other by the Lions Club.
In the classroom, the students have been studying different trees with the instruction of fourth grade teacher Samantha Snogren, and have created t-shirts printed with their own drawings, which they will wear to the park for the tree planting event.
community invited
The community is invited to attend the event and learn proper tree planting techniques presented by Community Forester Chrissy Land of Scottsbluff, who will be talking with the students and community members about the importance of trees in a community, and the best way to plant them.
