Area business spreads Christmas cheer

LaRae Day of Cotton Empire provided residents of Westview Retirement Community with festive shirts for Christmas.

Day says she was lying in bed one night and thought that there are some families who don’t get to see their relatives in care homes in the holidays.

She wanted to provide care home residents with something new for them to open up during the holiday season.

With her shop, creating t-shirts was something she could easily put together. Day reached out to two other local crafters, Jen’s Crafty Crafts and MC Art & Design, and requested monetary donations from the community to cover the cost of the gifts.

Day created t-shirts with a variety of holiday designs. Some are adorned with a simple “Merry Christmas” while others have festive phrases such as “Dear Santa, I can explain.”

The shirts were gifted to Westview Retirement Community in early December, and Day hopes to continue this in future years with other assisted living centers or nursing homes.

Cotton Empire and those who assisted in creating the shirts made the holidays a little brighter for the residents of Westview.
