Central facelift, water line work progressing

The construction work on Central Avenue is going well, according to Grant City Superintendent Edward Dunn. Now approaching one month since the work began, the concrete crew is moving as fast as possible and will continue to do so until the weather is no longer suitable, Dunn said.

Open areas left as work is done will be the locations of the new street lights, which will start going up within the next two weeks, he said.

In other related road work news, the water project on the west side of Grant is moving along as scheduled, Dunn said. The water main on 6th Street is done from Sherman Ave. to Mitchem Ave., and the water main is done on Mitchem Ave. from 6th St. to 3rd St. Asphalt is currently being poured on these same streets. The water main on Hall Ave. is completed except for the testing, he said. Also completed is the water main work on 3rd St. from Mitchem Ave. to Garfield Ave., except for the hookup under the intersection of 3rd St. and Garfield Ave. Work is currently underway on Warren Ave. with completion of all remaining connections by December 31. Paving on Hall Ave. and Warren Ave. will more than likely be completed next spring as winter is fast approaching, Dunn said.

One project that is complete, Dunn said, is the concrete work on the airport road, which will be open Wednesday, Oct. 19. As always, citizens are asked to call the City of Grant with questions about any of the construction projects, 352-2100.
