Elder care facility receives assistance from Burwell to start fundraising

Things have been moving along for Our GoldenHours LLC, which is seeking to build the elder care facility that will be called Western Sky Community Care Center (WSCCC) in Grant.

Besides the survey completion of the ground that the facility will be located on, the organization has also just secured a relationship with the  Burwell Community Memorial Health Center, which will allow the group to start fund raising.

With the survey being completed on the Fredrick Ground, the group is a step closer to officially closing on the property with Perkins County Health Services. 

On Tuesday, Aug., 23, the PCHS Board of Directors unanimously voted to allow Western Sky CCC to work towards the purchasing of approximately nine acres of PCHS’s Frederick Ground for $1.  

“This is one big hurdle towards the official closing on the property,” said Western Sky CCC founding member Mark Bottom. “We forwarded the survey to the City of Grant last week to begin the rezoning process.”

Burwell Partnership

Besides the survey, another giant step forward for the Western Sky CCC is the development of a relationship between Burwell Community Memorial Health Center that will allow Western Sky CCC to use Burwell’s non-profit status to start fundraising. 

 “The board of directors at the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center met last week and approved the Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement with Western Sky CCC,” Bottom said. “This legal agreement gives Western Sky CCC  a 501c3 status.”

The agreement with Burwell will allow Western Sky CCC to have an employee identification number, employer identification number (EIN), and function with full authority and responsibility of a non-profit, Bottom said.

 The step is important because it gives Western Sky CCC the appropriate tax exempt status and ensures all contributions to the center are tax deductible. The step also allows Western Sky CCC to access to grant funds as a non-profit organization. 

Next Steps

Western Sky CCC is now in the planning phase of another town hall meeting, tentatively the third week of October, which will include the kick-off of its fundraising, Bottom said. A formal fundraising committee has been implemented for the task and is moving ahead now, Bottom said. 

“Our goal with the meeting will be to inform the public on the plan forward, to announce our fundraising goal and to engage public help and support,” Bottom said. “This is going to take all of us because we are trying to accomplish a difficult task in difficult times.”

 Bottom believes, however, that community support and resolve can and will overcome the challenges the group faces. He encourages everyone to keep watching the Tribune-Sentinel, the group’s email chain and Facebook page for updates on details for the meeting. 

 “Taking care of those who have given the most to our community is right and good business for the longevity of our communities,” he said.
