- Election 2024 - Bishop, Noyes and Cornelius win school board votes; Sims, Bishop remain on City Council; Trump projected 47th President
Voters in Perkins County showed up in record numbers for the 2024 election with a 78.51% turnout. According to County Clerk Rita Long, 72% was the most she had ever seen, “and that was really good we thought then, but this is great,” she said. Out of the 1,843 registered voters in Perkins County, 1,447 turned in a ballot.
Long reported a smooth election day with knowledgable and helpful volunteers and no complications in the process.
On the national level, voters who expected a long drawn out Presidential result may have been surprised to see that the projections were in on Wednesday morning for a Donald J. Trump victory.
COUNTY RESULTS
County Commissioner District 1 will go to Darin Robertson who received 384 of 391 votes. Commissioner for District 1 had 7 write in votes.
In the race for a seat on the Perkins County School Board, Jayson Bishop, Jason Noyes, and Holly Cornelius will fill the three vacancies. Of 3,465 votes, Bishop received 973, Noyes had 879 and Cornelius came in at 813. Mitch Bottom fell just short with 793 votes.
City Council will see incumbents Sam Sims and Kimberly Bishop keeping their positions. Of the 1002 votes, Sims received 383 and Bishop had 377. Jennifer Tatum was listed on the ballot but had requested no votes prior to election, citing personal reasons for dropping out of the race. Tatum received 238 votes.
The Village of Elsie will see Chris Flaming with 59 votes., Tami Cook with 55 votes, and Lynn Cook on the board of trustees. A total of 163 votes were cast in that race, 3 of them were write ins.
Madrid’s Board will also see the three candidates on the ballot join them with 59 votes going to Anthony Ross, 52 to George Adams and 50 going to Sean Sando, making up the total 161 votes on that issue.
Voters were to choose two on the Village of Venango Board members, and voters elected Tom Tines with 67 and Cody Miller with 49 votes. Venango did have two write in votes for a total of 118 votes cast.
The Elsie Cemetery District Levy passed 131 to 56.
The Venango Cemetery District Levy also passed 78 to 28.
