Grant City Park was bursting on Monday, July 4th as several hundreds of people, young and old, came out to take part in the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce’s Independence Day celebration.

According to Chamber President Michelle Ross,  the day was a huge success.

“We had a great family turnout from our community and many from out-of-town who came to celebrate our freedom,” Ross said.

According to Ross, many of the events met or exceeded their participation numbers from previous years.

Lauren Klima from Image Total Fitness reported she had a total of 240 sign up for the early morning fun run this year.

At lunch time, the City of Grant served 300 hot dogs for its fundraiser for a new fence at the ball field.

The sand volleyball  tournament had 10 teams  in it, with the Softley team winning the event, and the FFA cornhole tournament had many teams, with Jerrad and Cami Buller winning the event. The  FFA also sold slushes, which were a hit with young and old.

The Evangelical Free Church had five fun jumps, served popcorn, and cotton candy all for free.

The BBQ contest had four entries, with Brent Deaver earning top honors.

Along with Matt Chandler-Smith entertaining throughout the day with music and tree trivia, the crowd was also treated to David Curtis and crew playing tunes to the fiddle and Bango.

Several from the area brought cars and pickups, big and small, to fill up the green space in the park with another impressive car show.

The evening was again topped off with the fireworks display put on by the area fire departments.

2022 donations

Ross said the Chamber is already starting to think about next year’s show, and is still seeking donations to offset the cost of the fireworks, which cost the Chamber approximately $8,000 each year. Ross said she thanks everyone who has given so far. Donations can still be made to any bank in Grant. To date, donors for this years fireworks include the following:

Perry & Lasca Dudden, Karen Payne, Marvin and Marcia Swan, Tim & Ashley Colglazier, In & Out, Ted & Lou Tietjen, City of Grant, Village of Venango, Village of Madrid, Country Supply, Grant Packing, Hatch’s Super Foods, Karl and Sylvia Dudo, Ken and Jane Potts, Kevin Hatch, Joel Long, Darlene Kuskie, Daniel and Connie Thompson, Quality Diesel, Pinnacle Bank.
