Velte named Region’s Trooper of the Year

Nebraska State Patrol Sergeant Sean Velte has been honored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) as the North Central Region Trooper of the Year. Velte was honored Thursday evening at the IACP State & Provincial Police Conference in Seattle, Washington. He was one of four troopers chosen from four different regions in the United States.
This is the first time a Nebraska trooper has been chosen to represent the North Central region.
“Sergeant Velte is a tremendous leader for our agency,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “He is a very worthy recipient of this recognition and we’re proud of his daily work to keep Nebraska safe.”
The IACP also honored troopers from three other agencies representing other regions of the United States. The four honorees were finalists for the national Trooper of the Year award. The national award was presented to Trooper Spencer Morris of the Arkansas State Police.
“I’d like to thank the IACP for this honor and also to congratulate Trooper Morris of Arkansas and the other finalists,” said Sergeant Velte. “It truly is an honor to represent the Nebraska State Patrol and serve the people of our state.”
Velte is a 19-year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol. He serves in Troop H based in Lincoln.
Velte has served in several capacities during his career with NSP, including on the NSP SWAT Team and as an instructor.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police has membership in more than 165 counties and is the largest organization of law enforcement leaders in the world.
Velte, his parents, grandparents and great-grandparents are natives of Grant.
He graduated from Perkins County High School with the class of 1994, then earned a degree in criminal justice from Chadron State College.
He is son of Sandy Velte of Omaha and Jerry Velte of Lincoln.
