Wallace Community Foundation helps purchase chair for fire department

The Wallace Volunteer Fire Department is grateful to receive a 50/50 grant from the Wallace Community Foundation Fund. The grant will be used toward the purchase of a Ferno electric stair chair.  This specialized chair will be used to move patients in situations where a traditional stretcher won’t fit.

The department had an older stair chair they were using. It was difficult to set up and there were no motorized tracks to aid in maneuvering on stairs. Two strong men had to lift the older chair with a patient up and down the stairs.

The new chair will allow most members of the EMT team to use it. The electrically motorized tracks of the new chair will do the heavy lifting.  The motor’s control switch is accessed by the EMT at the head of the chair. The top handle and the handles at the bottom of the chair extend and retract for leverage and maneuverability.  When not in  use the chair easily collapses to allow for storability.

Although the EMTs don’t want to have a reason to use the new chair, they are glad it’s available when the need arises.
