Voting in person is critical this election

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

With the General Election of 2022 quickly coming upon us, and like many others in our great state, I have a renewed respect for this sacred opportunity.  There is no greater privilege in this country than to vote, but with privilege comes great responsibility. As voters, we are responsible for doing everything we can to be educated on the issues and candidates before we step into the voting booth. Also, we must vote IN PERSON! There is no better way to honor those who have fought for our freedoms, by taking very seriously the rights they fought and died to defend.

If you look across our country, you can hear county after county fighting to prevent potential election fraud. Many believe that we are safe and sound in our little bubble here in Nebraska, but we have the exact same electronic voting systems and tabulators as EVERY OTHER COUNTY! Nebraska is home to the largest manufacturer of electronic voting systems, ES&S. Just like every other government agency, our data and voting status is available online and susceptible to being hacked. The safest thing we can do is to show up in person on election day. Local county officials and poll workers are honest people, and far more worthy of our trust than private corporations with private interests. If you have already requested a ballot, bring your ballot IN PERSON to the clerk’s office on election day. And in order to ensure that your voice is counted as it should, we need to vote FOR Voter ID.

Next week I will send you more information on why it is so important to not only vote in person, but to also know for sure what you are voting for. Thank you.

Respectfully,

Melissa Sauder
