Jace Wid second at Sutherland
Senior Jace Wid led the Plainsmen wrestlers at the 26-team Sutherland meet Saturday.
Wid finished second at 160 in his first time out this season recovering from an injury.
Wid opened the meet with a 16-2 major decision of Hitchcock County’s Keegan Shuler. He followed that up with a 5-0 decision over Atwood-Rawlins County wrestler Kendrick Woody.
That moved him into the semi-finals where he pinned Brady’s Triston Stearns in 1:46.
That matched him up with Maxwell’s Derek Gibson,who has suffered just one loss so far this season.
Wid stayed with him until going down for the pin at the 3:08 mark to finish second.
Other wrestlers placing included Colton Pouk in fourth at 138; and Brandon Knoles and Ashton Meyer fourth at 220 and 285 respectively.
As a team, the Plainsmen finished seventh with 65 points. Mullen won the meet with 131 points.
Perkins County meet Jan. 9
The Plainsmen will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 9 when they hold their own invitational.
They will follow that up with the Garden County Invite on Saturday, Jan. 11.
