Elsie trustees approve bills, discuss utilities issues and Legion Hall updates

The Elsie Board of Trustees approved monthly bills and addressed several maintenance and community items during its regular meeting April 9 at the Village Office.

Chairman Doug Curtis called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., noting the posting of the Open Meetings Act. All five board members — Curtis, Lynn Cook, Chris Flaming, Vic Perez and Tamara Cook — were present.

No concerns were raised during the public forum. Trustees reviewed the quarterly sheriff’s report as part of petitions and communications.

The board unanimously approved minutes from the March 12 meeting.

In her report, Village Clerk Jessie Paintin said there were no delinquent notices and that the village’s audit waiver had been accepted. She also noted issues with the check reader and reminded the board that the next meeting is scheduled for May 14.

Utilities Superintendent Wade Turner reported that meter readings are set for April 15 and a monthly coliform water sample will be collected the following Monday. He also told the board a mower is under repair due to a broken brake and that intermittent starting issues with the west well are being addressed.

Trustees approved the treasurer’s report and bills totaling several thousand dollars in routine expenses, including utilities, payroll, trash service, water testing, insurance and law enforcement contract costs.

Among new business, the board approved the purchase of a new thermostat for the Legion Hall.

Trustees also voted to allow tables and chairs from the Legion Hall to be used outside the facility. Tamara Cook abstained from that vote.

In another action, the board approved a request from Dave Curtis to paint a flag mural on the front of the Legion Hall at no cost to the village. Curtis will fundraise privately for the project.

Board members also agreed to draft a letter to residents regarding use of the village’s roll-off dumpster.

In miscellaneous discussion, Curtis reported finding a buyer for two loads of millings.

The meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
