On Friday, January 19th, our 7th grade class and Plant Science Class went to STM Farms in Grant to participate in popcorn cleaning. Zach Paulman very graciously donated the popcorn to our 7th graders. This led to the opportunity for our students to learn more about the process of cleaning popcorn when Shannon and Teresa Malmkar with STM Farms volunteered to assist our class in cleaning.

The class was provided this opportunity because they are currently studying Nebraska’s commodities. Nebraska is typically the national leader in popcorn production. Ironically, it also happened to be National Popcorn Day!

They were able to learn about the process, machines, starch test, how popcorn pops, expansion volume tests, and even eat popcorn!

This popcorn will be utilized in our concession stand, which all organizations have the chance to work and benefit from! We appreciate all of the help that went into making this possible!
