Meeting on city water service draws crowd

There was a full house at the Grant City Council chambers as residents of the Northside Water District and those sharing city water on the south side met to discuss their options for water meters in a special meeting on Saturday, Feb. 25.
On Feb. 10, the 18 residents, who do not live within city limits but receive city water, received letters stating the water lines serving their homes do not meet city specs.
The letter gave residents two options. One option is to upgrade the system at their own cost to meet city standards, and the other option is for the city to place one large meter at the beginning of the lines serving the areas, leaving it to the responsibility of the residents to divide, collect and pay the bill. Separate payments would be unacceptable.
