Nebraska among top ten states where roads have become deadlier Between 23’ and 24’

A new study reveals that Nebraska saw the fifth highest spike in road fatalities from 2023 to 2024.

A new study by personal injury law firm H&P Law analyzed state-level traffic fatality data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to determine year-over-year changes across all 50 states. The analysis compared total traffic deaths reported in 2023 and 2024, using figures published in the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).

Nebraska takes fifth place with a 10.10% rise in road fatalities. The Cornhusker State experienced an increase, with 250 fatalities recorded in 2024, up from 227 in 2023.

Looking at the study, a spokesperson at H&P Law commented:

“The rise in traffic fatalities in Nebraska reflects a broader national concern, but the sharp increase here is especially alarming given the state’s smaller population size.”

“Every crash has the potential to forever alter the course of a family’s life. When numbers climb as they have in Nebraska, it signals the need for immediate, localized interventions.”

“State officials could respond by reassessing high-risk zones, launching targeted driver safety campaigns, and ensuring law enforcement has the tools to deter reckless driving. Expanding rural road safety initiatives and making lifesaving vehicle tech more available may also help reverse this trend.”

The study was conducted by H&P Law, an experienced personal injury law firm dedicated to protecting clients’ rights and maximizing claim value.

Methodology

The study analyzed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities for 2023” report. It compared year-over-year fatal crash numbers across all 50 states to identify where traffic deaths rose the most between 2023 and 2024.
