The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office posted a job opening within the agency for a criminal investigator. The intent is to move one of the road patrol deputies to a criminal investigative position.
Sheriff Jim Brueggeman told commissioners at the March 6 meeting that they currently assign cases to each deputy, but they’ve been getting slammed with criminal investigations, and it’s taking too much time away from the deputies’ patrol time.
“Basically we’re just shifting a resource from the road to doing permanent investigations, and I think it’s warranted,” Brueggeman said.
Commissioner Bernie Deaver said he could see benefits in the position, such as when certain investigations overlap.
