School board analyzing test data

After dispensing with their regular business, school board members and administration spent nearly three hour analyzing state testing data received by the school.

Principals Ben Jones and Nicole Long reviewed how each class from seniors down to second graders compared to the results of Nebraska schools as a whole.

With the exception of two classes, students scored above the state averages for language arts and math.

Students exceeded science standards by a wide margin.

Board member Angela Gloy said some of the results present a sense of urgency.

Being better than the 58% state standard is not all that thrilling, she noted.

She said her goal would be at least 75% proficient in all testing areas.

The grade school and junior high both received “great” ratings from the state. However, for some reason the high school received a “needs improvement” rating. Both Jones and Long differ with that assessment and are currently appealling that classification.

They have submitted a great deal of data to substantiate the appeal but it will be into November before the review is complete.
