Memorial Day services planned

Services for Memorial Day have been set on Monday, May 29 in communities throughout the region to pay tribute to Americans who have fallen in battle.

Grant

Legion Post 40 will host Grant’s service at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery southwest of Grant, with Legion Post Commander Mike Wyatt serving as emcee.

Pastor Elmer Armijo of Grant United Methodist Church will be giving the invocation and benediction and Denise Johnson will be this year’s guest speaker. 

The legion auxiliary will serve coffee and rolls at the legion hall in Grant following the service. 

Madrid

Memorial Day service in Madrid will begin with the annual pancake feed from 6:30-8 a.m. at the legion hall.

The service will start at 9 a.m. at Madrid Cemetery with Stephanie Larson as guest speaker. Larson is the Perkins County Veteran’s Service Officer.

Coffee/rolls will be served at the legion hall following the service.

Elsie

The annual Memorial Day service will begin at the Elsie Cemetery east of town at 10 a.m. with Legion Post 206 Commander Glen Stanek serving as emcee for the event.

Venango

The Venango Legion Post 270 will host their Memorial Day service at 10:30 a.m. at the Venango Cemetery.

Speaker will be Bill Manire, a retired United States Air Force officer and businessman.

He retired from the Air Force in 1991 with the rank of Colonel. He was a command pilot with over 4,000 fly hours which included 1,200 combat flying hours. 

Luke Krogmeier of Holyoke High School will give his Voice of Democracy speech and Heather From will sing. 

Following the program the Venango Auxiliary will have a free-will donation luncheon at the legion hall.

Wallace

At 10 a.m. CT the Wallace American Legion Post 213 will hold their service at the cemetery south of Wallace.

Maggie May, valedictorian of the 2017 class of Wallace High School, will be this year’s guest speaker.

A free-will hamburger and hot dog feed will be held at the legion hall in Wallace following the service.
