Perkins County Head Football Coach and Activities Director Carlie Wells has accepted a position as PK-12 principal at Anselmo-Merna Public Schools for the 2017-18 school year.

A late resignation from Superintendent/Principal Jason Mundorf to accept a position in Kearney, along with some restructuring internally at Anselmo-Merna, opened the principal position.

PCS Superintendent Phillip Picquet said although the timing is not ideal, Mr. Wells has seized this opportunity and is doing what he can to make sure everything is ready for his replacement.

Pending board approval, Lance Steffen has been hired to replace Wells as the head football coach this fall.

Picquet said they are looking internally and have also placed ads for different positions to replace Wells.

“We are looking at multiple scenarios in filling the vacancy and will do what we can to give kids the best possible instructor and activities director,” said Picquet.

Carlie, who also teaches physical education at PCS, came to Perkins County in 2013 from Elgin/Pope John.

During his tenure at PCS, the football team made the transition from 11-man to 8-man, and qualified for the playoffs in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Wells’ new position will put him within 10 miles of his hometown roots of Broken Bow.

PCS will also be looking to fill the school nurse position, which is currently held by Wells’ wife, Kim.

Carlie and Kim have four sons, Cyrus, Connor, Cal and Cobe.
