Lady Plainsmen wrap up golf season

The 2017 Lady Plainsmen golf season has come to an end after one final regular season meet at the Dundy County Stratton invite in Benkelman last week, and districts which were on Monday in Ogallala.

The Dundy County Stratton girls golf invite was held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and Coach Shawn Cole and players Kyla Brueggeman and Peyton Woodmancy competed in their last regular invite of the season against six other teams.

Both Lady Plainsmen ended up in the top 10 of the day. Brueggeman took sixth with a final score of 110, and Woodmancy took ninth with a total score of 115.

Districts in Ogallala

On Monday, Oct. 2, Districts were held in Ogallala, where the Lady Plainsmen played with 11 other teams. Coach Cole said, “We had a very tough district this year.”

Brueggeman, a senior, had to withdrawal from her last  district competition, which she admitted was extremely disappointing. She had shot 61 on the way out, but had to exit the competition on her way in due to a shoulder injury.

“I enjoyed accomplishing one of my goals which was breaking 100 with a 94. The best part was hitting a couple drives more than 250 yards. I am now looking forward to basketball season and then college after that. I want to thank Coach Cole for supporting me through my years of playing girl’s golf,” Brueggeman said. 

Woodmancy shot a 68 on her way out, and 75 coming back in, for a total day score of 143. She said she was disappointed the season is over but is already looking forward to playing again next year and said of this season, “I feel I grew as a golfer.”
