Gov. Ricketts unveils “Choose Life” license plate
Governor Pete Ricketts unveiled the design for the new “Choose Life” license plate on Monday, Nov. 27. The plate was commissioned by LB46 passed by the Legislature earlier this year. The governor was joined by Lt. Governor Mike Foley, State Senator Dan Watermeier, and representatives from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Students for Life, Bethlehem House and other pro-life leaders.
“Life is precious, and public officials have a duty to stand up and be a voice for the unborn and most vulnerable,” said Governor Ricketts. “As governor, I have worked to support initiatives that protect and strengthen the culture of life that Nebraskans embody. With the creation of this plate, Nebraska joined 29 other states that offer ‘Choose Life’ license plates.”
LB46 was introduced by State Senator Dan Watermeier of Syracuse. It is the first pro-life legislation signed into law in years. Senator Watermeier worked with senators to overcome a filibuster.
“Every community has a responsibility to guard, protect and cherish human life. Today, Nebraska takes another important step in showing our deep value and respect for human life through the beautiful ‘Choose Life’ plates you see today,” said Senator Watermeier.
“With the new ‘Choose Life’ license plate, Nebraskans have an opportunity to put our deeply held pro-life values into action. This image will be a daily reminder for us to defend life and offer hope to those in most need,” said Tom Venzor, executive director of the Nebraska Catholic Conference.
“The ‘Choose Life’ license plate provides an important opportunity for the citizens of Nebraska to celebrate the culture of life. This design reflects a growing support for the protection of Nebraska’s greatest resource, our children,” said Karen Bowling, executive director of Nebraska Family Alliance.
“Nebraskans are pro-life and will now have another venue with which to show their support for children and their mothers, and to hopefully further inculcate a pro-life message among those who might be considering abortion,” said Sandy Danek, president of Nebraska Right to Life.
