Injuries take toll on Lady Wildcats

The Wallace girls basketball team opened their basketball season under difficult circumstances. They had to face two difficult teams and three of the varsity players are out with injuries. As if that were not enough, they lost a fourth player in the season opener.

Before even getting to play a game, injuries sidelined Peyton Messersmith, Chevi McClintock and Aubyrne McClintock and then Meredith McCoy went down during the game to join the list. The Lady Cats not only had to adapt to the loss of the four teammates, they were on the road facing tough competition.

Wauneta-Palisade

Wauneta-Palisade was the first test for Wallace. The Broncos took command of the game early on by putting up the first 11 points.

Ansley Wood was able to get a long jumper to fall but Wa-Pa didn’t back down; they put up eight additional points while holding Wallace to two free throws from Hannah Nelson.

With a 19-4 lead, the Lady Broncos continued to dominate in the second quarter. Wallace got off to a good start by putting up the first five points; Shelby Ogier drained a 3-ball and then Hailey Brooks put one in off the glass.
