Feature/News Stories

• Martin Bremmer was selected as finalist in Farm Bureau’s Rural Entrepreneurship Challenge.

• Susan Hanson completed a 6-foot fiberglass heart art project for Nebraska By Heart as part of the state’s Sesquicentennial.

• PC Elementary students raised funds for an electric scooter for Hatch’s Super Foods.

• PC Elementary students hosted a pancake feed and raised $4,000 to send three local veterans on the Vietnam Veterans Flight.

• The Northside Water Extension District was formed and south-side residents installed wells or found other water options after receiving letters from the City of Grant regarding shared water lines and water meters.

• GVFD responded to a record eight fires in one day.

• The PC Hospital tax levy passed in a special election.

• The path of totality for the solar eclipse on Aug. 20 was 50 miles north of Perkins County.

• Jana Turner of Grant donated her liver to stranger Lori Rainwater of Colorado.

• Dr. Eric Gengenbach was named Young Optometrist of the Year.

School Activity/Sports Stories

• PCS wrestlers finished second at districts, sending five to state. Beau Wood placed third at state.

• PCS speech team took second at districts. Four students earned a trip to state. Katie Patrick placed sixth in persuasive speaking at state. 

• Valerie Perez and Karen Ruiz earned a trip to National FCCLA with a top gold championship medal at state and gold at nationals.

• Charles Johnson took first place in the Nebraska District No. 3 Congressional Art Contest. His drawing will hang in the US Capital in Washington D.C. for the 2017-18 school year.

• Bailey Schrotberger, Bryce Wilson, Charles Johnson and Alex Patrick set a new school record in the 400 relay.

• Eight Plainsmen earned a trip to the state track meet, bringing home four medals. 

• The PC golf team received district runner-up for a trip to state. The team took sixth at state, with Josh Johnston placing fifth and Tyson Patrick placing 10th. 

• The Perkins County boys cross county team earned a trip to state as district runner-up. Caden Waitley was the district champion and placed ninth at state. 

• Plainsmen football team took down top seed in D1 second round playoffs with 2.5 seconds left

• The PCS board decided to remain at eight-man football and be ineligible for playoffs.
