Trust in the Lord

Have you ever been a part of playing Trust games? An example of one I have used before, is one person stands up with their arms across their chest and when given the go ahead, will fall backwards into the arms of the folks standing below them. Have you ever done this? How did it work for you?

Honestly, I think it can be a little unnerving. A lot of “what ifs” go through your thoughts before you land in those arms. TRUST is something we offer and something we receive. Yet it is something that is dependent on relationship, belief, faith and a dialogue in our minds.

Is what we are being told really the truth, or is it what others “want us to believe?”

Sometimes we just don’t know. Sometimes we have to be willing to step out and work with others to develop that trust. It’s a process. It comes together because of relationship. Maybe it’s trust of a group, maybe it’s trust of an individual and often it is learning to trust God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight.

In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord and do good; so, you will live in the land and enjoy security. Take delight in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will act. Psalm 37:3-5

Trusting, living, enjoying security–those bring me delight in the Lord. And then there are the desires of my heart. Wow. That’s when we have to stop a minute and evaluate what it really is that we want. Am I committing my life to the Lord? Or am I saying this is what I want, now give it to me?

Delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Did you catch that? It’s not about me, it’s not about you, it’s about us taking delight in the Lord. Do you know what that means?

It’s about building a relationship with God; getting to know Christ. Not just knowing about Christ, but knowing Christ, finding joy in living for Jesus, being that follower that allows the light of Christ to shine in and through your life and the amazing thing that happens when you allow that to happen is that all of a sudden you are able to Thank God for what you have. And Trust God for what you need.

Those desires of your heart are reworked, reshaped and redirected. You begin to understand what is really important in life and the words your mind thinks become the house where your heart lives. You begin to realize it’s not about you. It’s not about how you see life. It’s about how God shows you life through his eyes.

We are to commit our ways to the Lord, trust him and he will act through the renewing of our mind, drawing on God’s wisdom to know the difference between right and wrong and believing I am God’s child, lavished in love, gifted with grace, showered with mercy and overflowing with hope.

And because of that revelation we can claim, Lord, I want my life to reflect who YOU are. I want to get out of the way, I want the desires of my heart to be your desires. I want to trust you with my whole being. I want to forget my past through the forgiveness you provide and seek to live a life that is a reflection of you. I want my words and my actions to match. When others see me, I want them to be able to see the face of Christ showing through the person that I am because Christ lives within me. I want them to know of his redeeming love and power, the faith he provides, that life is better because I trust him, there is healing, forgiveness and love in and through him.

For the true love of God must begin with the delight of his holiness. It’s not enough to know about Christ. Even the devil knows about Christ. We are to be in a relationship with Christ.

We should live so that others will say what you are doing speaks so loud, I can’t hear what you are saying and have that be a good thing. Don’t shine so that others can see you, shine so that through you, others may see Him. Others may know Christ. Others may trust in the Lord with their whole hearts.
