Violet Baerg

Violet “Vi” Baerg, 92, of Madrid, Nebraska passed away July 10, 2018 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Neb.

She was born April 21, 1926 to Aaron and Catherine Bartel Reimer in Giroux, Manitoba.

As the oldest in their bustling family of 10 children, Vi was a kind, motherly sister to her younger siblings. When she was 12 years old, the family felt the lure of the north country and available homesteads. Vi formed lasting friendships in the Crooked Creek, Alberta community. A highlight during this time was when she found the Lord and was baptized at the age of 12.

When she was 17 years of age, the family made another move, this time to Linden, Alberta.

Albert Baerg took note of her and soon Bert and Vi knew they were made for each other. They were married on June 16, 1946 in Linden, Alberta. Six children arrived to fill their home with love, song and laughter.

After years of operating a business, Bert moved the family to a Nebraska farming venture in 1979, and Vi was his enthusiastic supporter. Bert, the love of her life, passed away 15 years ago after 58 years of marriage.

After Bert passed away, Vi moved to Westview, Park Ridge and Golden Ours of Grant. Her family appreciates the excellent care she received there.

As her family stood by her bedside a few days ago, they rejoiced. She had finished her race and victory was hers to enjoy throughout eternity. Her family thanks God for a Christian mother who taught them to pray, to love God and serve Him.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, her husband, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Left to remember a wonderful mother and grandmother are her children: Carol and Lee Nikkel of Madrid; Barbara and Roy Boese of Pincher Creek, Alberta; Ken and Lucille Baerg of Bow Island, Alberta; Terry and Randy Ensz of Ogallala, Neb.; Barry and Cynthia Baerg of Paxton, Neb.; and Jaqueline Susan and Eldon Dyck of Paxton; 28 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Violet’s memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.

Services were held on Sunday, July 15 at the Golden Plains Mennonite Church west of Madrid. Burial will be in the Madrid Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
